Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwatope Savage, widely known as Tiwa Savage, has spoken on her rift with Afrobeats star Davido and also dispelled speculations linking her romantically with Wizkid.
Speaking on The Breakfast Club programme on Tuesday, Savage explained that her December 2023 disagreement with Davido was rooted in “a misunderstanding” after she shared an Instagram story with Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child.
“Our kids are friends, and they’ve gone to the same school since they were one. They’re 10 now. I naturally grew a relationship with the mother of their kid. I didn’t really know there were issues,” she said.
According to her, Davido misread her interaction at a social gathering, which later led to what she described as “taunts and threats.”
“I guess I was at an event and she was too. Naturally, we greeted each other. He saw that, and he took it the wrong way. He felt I knew what was happening and was on her side—but that’s not the case. This is just a woman I know, who is the mother of my son’s friend,” Savage explained.
The singer confirmed that she filed a police petition after receiving what she interpreted as threatening messages.
“I reached out to members of his family before I did anything. I was hearing threats and asked if we could resolve it, but none of them came back to me. I just wanted to ensure safety for everyone involved, and that’s why I filed a petition. It wasn’t about revenge,” she said.
Savage, however, stressed that she did not believe Davido intended harm.

“I don’t think he was ever going to carry it out. David is such a joyful person, and I know he didn’t mean it the way it sounded. I want everyone to know there’s no bad blood. I haven’t spoken to him, but I love him, and I always put our kids first,” she added.
On speculations about a relationship with Wizkid, the singer dismissed the rumours, saying, “Shout out to Wizkid. I love Wizkid. I respect Wizkid. It’s not about him.”
She clarified that her earlier reference to a secret romance with a public figure was unrelated to Wizkid, describing the experience as “embarrassing and emotionally draining.”
“At the time, I didn’t see how bad it was. It chipped away at my confidence, and it comes through in my music. I hadn’t even been able to perform that song because of how it made me feel,” Savage revealed.
The award-winning artist noted that the personal challenges had shaped her artistry, adding authenticity to her music’s themes of love, heartbreak, and resilience.
