The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Public Affairs, Aliyu Audu, has resigned from his position, barely 10 months after his appointment.
Audu made his resignation known in a formal letter dated June 8, routed through the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. The letter, which surfaced on Monday, stated that his decision to step down takes effect immediately.
“I write to formally tender my resignation… effective immediately,” Audu wrote in the one-page letter. He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in his administration. “I thanked the President for the opportunity to serve my fatherland under your visionary leadership,” he stated.
The now-former aide also acknowledged Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, for playing a key role in his appointment. “It has been an honour to contribute to the public communication efforts of this administration,” Audu wrote, noting that his nomination followed a recommendation by Ngelale.
Though Audu did not give reasons for his resignation, he rounded off the letter with a note of goodwill to the President. “Please accept the assurances of my highest esteem and continued prayers for the success of your leadership and the progress of our beloved nation,” he concluded.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency is yet to issue an official response to Audu’s resignation.
Audu was appointed on 26 August 2023, during an ongoing reorganisation of the President’s media and communications team aimed at strengthening public messaging and engagement.
