Abuja – A firestorm of controversy has erupted around the political situation in Kano, with Buba Galadima, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), alleging a clandestine plot to destabilize the state and force the federal government to impose emergency rule. Galadima claims President Bola Tinubu was entirely unaware of the scheme.
Speaking on AIT’s political program, “Jigsaw,” Galadima asserted that powerful individuals were orchestrating events to create a crisis in Kano, targeting both the state government and the Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II. “On the Kano situation, because unknown to him, and I can beat my chest that he didn’t know, Tinubu didn’t know what happened, what was arranged,” Galadima stated. “There was a grand design to set up the Kano state government, including the Emir, such that they could declare a state of emergency.”
Galadima further revealed that a high-level meeting took place in Abuja, where the plan was discussed. He claimed that a key individual, poised to become the new Emir, was deliberately sent on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia to facilitate the plot. “There was a meeting in a senior official of government’s house in this Abuja, and the man that was supposed to be appointed Emir was sent to Umrah, and as I speak to you now, he is in Saudi Arabia,” he alleged. “Their thinking is that once the Emir is invited today, he will be detained in Abuja. Once he’s detained, the military will be put on alert and the throne will be declared vacant.”
Despite intense questioning from the program’s anchor, Galadima declined to name the individuals involved, stating, “No, I don’t want to mention names. Go and find out who is in Saudi Arabia out of the princes in Kano. Everybody in Nigeria knows what is happening.”
The allegations come on the heels of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, withdrawing an invitation sent to Emir Sanusi to appear at the force headquarters in Abuja. The invitation, issued last week, was related to alleged killings during the recent Eid-el-Fitr celebration, adding to the growing tension in the state.
Galadima’s explosive claims have ignited a wave of speculation and concern, raising serious questions about the stability of Kano and the potential involvement of high-ranking officials. The allegations of a plot orchestrated without the president’s knowledge have added a layer of intrigue to the already charged political atmosphere, leaving Nigerians to ponder the true extent of the alleged machinations.
