President Bola Tinubu convened a high-level security meeting on Tuesday with National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa, at the State House in Abuja, to address the escalating violence in parts of the country.
The meeting comes in the wake of intensified attacks, particularly in Plateau and Benue states, which have resulted in significant loss of life and displacement of residents.
President Tinubu, who recently returned from a 19-day working visit to Europe, sought immediate updates from his security and intelligence chiefs on the deteriorating situation in the affected regions. Reports indicate that suspected foreign herders have been implicated in the recent attacks, further exacerbating the security challenges.
The ongoing violence has triggered widespread concern both within Nigeria and internationally, prompting calls for decisive government action to restore peace and security to the troubled areas.
The meeting between President Tinubu, the NSA, and the CDS is viewed as a crucial step in formulating strategies to tackle the security crisis and provide much-needed relief to the traumatized communities.
