The African Democratic Congress (ADC) used President Bola Tinubu’s 74th birthday to size up the country, saying the administration’s “Renewed Hope” pledge has slid into hopelessness for many Nigerians.

ADC national publicity secretary Bolaji Abdullahi delivered the verdict in a birthday post on Sunday.
“Nigerians now measure your presidency by the pain they feel,” he said.

The party flagged a near-500 percent jump in fuel prices since 2023, noting that a simple bus ride now swallows a full day’s wage for many workers.

Security, it added, has worsened: “Nigeria now ranks fourth on the Global Terrorism Index; every hour, a Nigerian is killed by insurgents. Communities bury their dead while the attackers are called ‘our sons’ and ‘brothers.’”

Inflation keeps climbing, small businesses are folding, and the political space “is shrinking so fast we’re staring at a de-facto one-party state,” the statement said.

Birthdays should prompt soul-searching, the ADC told the president.
“We wish you good health, but we also ask you to own the blood on the streets, the empty wallets and the silenced voices. Governance is not a birthday favour; it is the job you signed up for.”
