Former presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has once again spoken out on the upcoming 2027 presidential election, criticizing Northern leaders for their interference in candidate choices.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Kwankwaso condemned individuals who claim to represent the North but meddle in the selection of candidates, particularly for the presidency. He warned that such actions sow division among the people, undermine democracy, and result in the election of incompetent leaders.

Kwankwaso urged these so-called leaders to learn from past elections and refrain from imposing their will on the people. He specifically called out Northern elders, particularly from the Northwest, to avoid showing favoritism in candidate selection.

The former Kano State Governor also addressed rumors of an alleged agreement between himself, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi regarding presidency terms. Kwankwaso clarified that there was no such agreement and reaffirmed his commitment to fair democratic processes.

In the 2023 polls, Kwankwaso placed fourth behind President Bola Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi. He emphasized the importance of respecting the will of the people in selecting future leaders.
