Former Ibrahim Shekarau has emerged as the consensus senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Kano Central race ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development followed the withdrawal of six aspirants from the contest, paving the way for Shekarau’s emergence as the party’s unified choice.
Party insiders described the move as a strategic effort to consolidate support and avoid internal divisions in one of Nigeria’s most politically influential regions.
Shekarau, a former governor of Kano State and seasoned political figure, is expected to play a central role in shaping the APC’s fortunes in the state as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
The consensus arrangement is likely to strengthen the party’s early positioning in Kano Central, a district widely regarded as critical to electoral calculations in northern Nigeria.
