Senator David Jang has criticised the Governor of Plateau State, accusing him of undermining the party that brought him to power and rejecting the notion that he “defected” from it.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Jang asserted that the governor was elected while a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and warned against attempts to sever ties with the party’s support.
“He was elected inside PDP before he defected, and he doesn’t like the word ‘defect’. We brought him to power; you can’t take our mandate anywhere,” Jang said.
The senator also highlighted the party’s role in the development of government infrastructure, noting that the PDP government was responsible for building the state’s government house.
“PDP government built that government house,” he added, emphasising the party’s foundational role in the administration’s success.
Jang’s comments reflect growing tension within the Plateau political landscape, as party loyalty and governance achievements become points of contention ahead of future elections.
The governor has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
