Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have presented a brand-new car to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, in a high-profile gesture of appreciation.
The presentation, which took place on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, was led by lawmakers loyal to the former governor, who described the gift as a token of gratitude for what they termed his “unwavering support and visionary leadership” during his tenure in office.
According to the legislators, Wike’s policies and developmental projects as governor laid the foundation for what they described as “renewed stability and progress” in the state.
They noted that the gesture was also a recognition of his continued influence and guidance in Rivers politics, despite ongoing political tensions.
Wike, who received the vehicle during a brief ceremony, thanked the lawmakers for the honour, describing it as “unexpected but deeply appreciated.” He urged them to remain committed to good governance and to focus on delivering quality legislation for the people of Rivers State.
The gesture has sparked mixed reactions among residents and political observers, with some praising the lawmakers’ show of loyalty while others questioned the propriety of such a gift at a time of economic strain.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has yet to issue an official statement explaining the funding and approval process behind the car presentation.
