In an interview with BBC Pidgin, and monitored by OBSERVERS TIMES, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, reaffirmed his relationship with suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labeling him as his political son despite ongoing tensions between them.
Wike dismissed rumors of a feud, emphasizing that his conflict is not with Fubara himself but with individuals he claims are attempting to manipulate the governor against him. “That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son; why would I fight with him?” Wike stated.
He elaborated, “I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for. If you don’t defeat them, they will think you’re weak. You must defeat them completely.” Wike suggested that those adversaries are the ones influencing Fubara, stating, “Now, they are ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara.”
The political landscape in Rivers State has been tumultuous since 2023, with Wike and Fubara at the center of an ongoing crisis. Reports indicate that Fubara, who was suspended by President Bola Tinubu following a state of emergency declaration in Rivers State, has since expressed regret to his former mentor.
