Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has taken a swipe at former Delta State Governor and ex-Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, suggesting that his desire to return to the National Assembly is driven by a quest for seniority and influence.

Speaking during a public engagement, Tinubu remarked that Okowa’s Senate ambition was aimed at securing the status of a ranking senator.

“Senator Okowa wants to go back to the Senate so he can become a ranking senator like me,” she said, drawing reactions from the audience.

The comment comes amid growing political realignments and early manoeuvring ahead of future electoral contests, with several former governors reportedly considering returns to the National Assembly.

While Tinubu’s remark was delivered in a light-hearted tone, it has already sparked conversations within political circles over the motivations behind the renewed legislative ambitions of some former state governors.
