Former President Muhammadu Buhari has asserted that Nigeria experienced significant improvements in security and the economy during his eight-year administration. He made these remarks on Wednesday while hosting members of the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.
Buhari emphasized that he inherited a troubled economy and severe security challenges from the Peoples Democratic Party, which governed for 16 years prior to his tenure. He expressed confidence that his government’s strategies effectively addressed these issues, leading to a reduction in terrorism and alleviating economic hardships.
“Compared to what we met in 2015, Nigeria’s security and economy improved significantly under my administration. I believe things will continue to improve in Nigeria,” he stated.
The former president also acknowledged ongoing administrative challenges, noting that only those in positions of authority fully grasp the complexities involved.
In response, Yusuf Ibrahim-Jargaba, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, praised Buhari for his efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, and other security threats during his presidency. He commended Buhari’s dedication, hard work, and selfless service, which he believes played a crucial role in maintaining the country’s unity.
