The Nigerian Police Force has advised the media house to suspend the local government elections in Osun State, which were scheduled for February 22. The advice, signed by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, cited heightened security threats and legal complexities as the reasons for the recommendation.

According to the statement, the police received credible intelligence indicating a risk of violence and security threats if the elections were to proceed. Various groups, including political elements, were reportedly planning to instigate unrest and disrupt public peace.

The Police urged the Osun State Government to reconsider and suspend the elections immediately to prevent potential widespread unrest that could endanger lives and property. Despite this advice, the Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and upholding democratic processes in Nigeria within the confines of the law.
