The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has stated that it has no information regarding the reported arrest of social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). This contradicts claims made by his lawyer that VDM was apprehended at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja.
VDM was allegedly taken into custody on Friday, May 2nd, at the GTBank branch located in Area 3, Garki, Abuja. This followed VDM’s public allegations against the bank.
On Thursday, VDM used his Instagram platform to accuse GTBank of unauthorizedly approving a loan using his mother’s National Identification Number (NIN) without her consent.
In his post, which included a video, VDM questioned the bank’s security protocols, asking, “If GT-BANK can do this to my mother then they are doing it to a lot of Nigerians. How can you say someone used my mother’s NIN to collect loan? Like how? Where is your customer security? Which account did you credit when you approved the loan @gtbank?”
Confirming the arrest on Friday, VDM’s legal counsel, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “JUST IN: VDM arrested by the police at GTB. Spoke to them before he was arrested. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.”
In a subsequent update, Adeyanju added that VDM was arrested along with a friend identified as C Park, but his mother, who was present, was not detained. He wrote, “A team of policemen arrested VDM at GTB. He was arrested with his friend C Park but they left his mom alone.”
However, when contacted by THE WHISTLER, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, denied any knowledge of the arrest.
“Madam I don’t know what you are talking about. I don’t know what you are talking about please,” Adeh said, emphasizing that the command was “not aware” of the incident.
As of press time, GTBank has not released any official statement addressing VDM’s allegations or the circumstances surrounding his reported arrest.
Attempts to reach the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters and GTBank for further comments have been unsuccessful.
