••Reaffirms Fiscal Discipline, Lauds Plateau’s Revenue Surge at CITN Conference
Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has underscored his administration’s unwavering commitment to prudent and transparent management of public funds as a cornerstone for sustainable development in the state.
Speaking at the 27th Annual Tax Conference of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) in Abuja, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the critical role of effective taxation in driving national growth. The conference, themed “Taxation for Development: Policies, Laws, and Implementation,” provided a platform for discussing ongoing tax reforms.
Governor Mutfwang highlighted his administration’s focus on the judicious allocation of resources to address crucial needs, improve citizens’ welfare, and foster an attractive environment for investment and development.
“I commend CITN for organizing this important conference to reflect on how taxation policies and collection mechanisms can be more effective in fostering national development,” he stated. “This is crucial, as taxation remains a key driver for funding government programmes.”
He stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in implementing tax reforms to ensure equitable benefits for all Nigerians.
The Governor also expressed Plateau State’s readiness to collaborate with federal agencies like the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee to enhance tax administration across all levels.
“At the sub-national level, we are committed to prudent resource management. In Plateau, our focus is on stimulating economic activity and wealth creation before expanding the tax base,” Governor Mutfwang explained.
He proudly announced a significant increase in Plateau State’s internally generated revenue (IGR) from N800 million to N3 billion monthly since his administration’s inception, attributing this progress to strategic reforms and economic investments.
Extending an invitation, Governor Mutfwang urged the CITN leadership to consider hosting future conferences in Plateau State, renowned as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, President and Chairman in Council of CITN, welcomed delegates and encouraged members to actively contribute to discussions aimed at Nigeria’s economic advancement.
The Plateau delegation at the conference included the Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), Dr. Jim Pam Wayas.
