Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called for deeper collaboration between Nigeria and Switzerland, with a renewed focus on partnerships that drive sustainable development, economic growth and institutional reforms.
Obi made the call after meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, describing the engagement as a productive exchange on areas of mutual interest between both countries.
In a statement shared after the meeting, Obi said discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, governance, innovation and economic development.
He stressed that strategic international partnerships remain essential to addressing Nigeria’s development challenges, noting that collaboration with countries such as Switzerland could help unlock opportunities for investment, job creation and improved public institutions.
Obi also reaffirmed his commitment to advocating policies that promote transparency, accountability and inclusive growth, saying Nigeria’s progress depends on building strong institutions and fostering productive global relationships.
The meeting comes amid renewed calls for increased international cooperation to support Nigeria’s economic recovery and long-term development goals. Switzerland has maintained longstanding diplomatic and development ties with Nigeria, particularly in governance, humanitarian assistance, peacebuilding and economic cooperation.
