A Nigerian senator has downplayed the strength of opposition parties, asserting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu faces no significant political threat.

Orji Uzor Kalu said the opposition remains fragmented and ineffective, describing its members as politically aligned with the president despite party differences.

“President Tinubu is not running for president with anybody. The opposition is very weak,” Kalu said. “All of them in opposition are our friends — they are President Tinubu’s friends. We’re all friends.”

The senator added that political rivals should focus on presenting credible alternatives rather than attempting to challenge the administration without a clear agenda.

“Let them present what they will do better than President Tinubu,” he said.

Kalu’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over the strength and cohesion of Nigeria’s opposition parties, as political actors position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
