The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, has appealed to the Federal Government to release detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu so he can receive proper medical treatment.

In a video message shared on Thursday, Azuta-Mbata also urged the government to adopt a political solution to Kanu’s case, warning that his continued detention offered no real advantage to the state.

Kanu, arrested in 2015 on charges of treasonable felony, fled the country in 2017 while on bail but was rearrested in Kenya in 2021 in a controversial operation. He has since remained in the custody of the Department of State Services.

The Ohanaeze leader further called on Igbos across Nigeria to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise and obtain their voter cards.
