President Bola Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a sharp swipe at former Anambra State governor Peter Obi following his decision to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on 31 December 2025.
Obi’s unexpected defection, which has stirred fresh debates about his political trajectory ahead of the next electoral cycle, was met with immediate and pointed criticism from the Presidency’s media team.
Reacting on Tuesday, Onanuga dismissed the move as politically insignificant, questioning Obi’s influence and capacity to mount any serious challenge under his new party platform. While he did not provide detailed commentary, his tone suggested clear scepticism about Obi’s long-term prospects.
Obi’s entry into the ADC marks yet another shift in his evolving political journey, reigniting discussions about alliances, voter appeal, and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria.
Neither Obi nor the ADC has issued a formal statement addressing Onanuga’s remarks at the time of this report.
