Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has sharply rebuked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following comments in which the former Rivers State governor vowed to “monitor” the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

Makinde, speaking through party channels, described Wike’s remarks as unwarranted interference and questioned his moral authority to comment on the affairs of the PDP in Oyo. In a strongly worded response, the governor said Wike only rose to national prominence in 2015 and was subsequently expelled from the party in 2025.

He further challenged the FCT minister to account for his stewardship of the PDP in Rivers State before turning his attention elsewhere. “Ask him what he has done with the PDP in Rivers State to now have an interest in Oyo PDP,” Makinde said, dismissing Wike’s comments as provocative and lacking substance.

The exchange follows recent remarks by Wike suggesting he would keep a close watch on developments within the Oyo State chapter of the PDP, a statement that has stirred fresh tension within the opposition party.

Observers say the latest war of words underscores deepening divisions within the PDP as key figures trade accusations ahead of future political contests. Neither Wike nor the PDP national leadership has officially responded to Makinde’s latest comments.
