Key Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North-Central Zone Resolve to Secure National Chairmanship in 2025
Prominent stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North-Central Zone have announced their strong commitment to ensuring that the zone produces a successor for the party’s acting national chairman, Ambassador Umar Ilyas Damagum, early in 2025.
A communiqué released after a high-level meeting, which included influential figures such as former Senate Presidents, presidential aspirants, former senators, a current member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), ex-ministers, former governors, and the zone’s sole serving governor, outlined their determination to see Damagum replaced by a candidate from the North-Central Zone.
Notable attendees at the meeting included David Ombugadu, a former House of Representatives member from Nasarawa State and previously suggested consensus candidate for the zone’s National Chairmanship, as well as Senator Gabriel Suswam, a vocal supporter of Atiku and former contender for the PDP National Chairmanship.
The stakeholders, gathered in an undisclosed location in Abuja, issued three key resolutions in their communiqué:
- The stakeholders reviewed the state of the party, particularly the vacant position of National Chairman following the departure of Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
- Emphasized the need for the party leadership to adhere to the PDP constitution in appointing a replacement within the zone.
- Urged unity and consensus-building to restore the North Central Zone’s representation in the party leadership.
Among the PDP North Central zone stakeholders present were Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau state, former Senate Presidents Senator David Mark and Senator Bukola Saraki, current National Legal Adviser Alhaji Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Minister of the Interior Senator Abba Moro, and several other influential personalities from the region.
