A Cessna 172 aircraft operated by Skypower Express crashed on Tuesday night at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Imo State, triggering an emergency response from airport authorities.
The incident occurred in the evening hours, shortly after the aircraft encountered difficulties while operating within the airport vicinity. Emergency services at the airport were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the situation and secure the area.
Officials confirmed that rescue and safety teams acted swiftly to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of airport personnel and nearby facilities. Details regarding the number of occupants on board and the extent of injuries, if any, were yet to be officially disclosed as of press time.
