Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has officially joined the race for the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State after purchasing the nomination and expression of interest forms of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Tuggar acquired the forms, priced at ₦50 million, marking a significant step in his bid to secure the party’s ticket ahead of the next gubernatorial contest.

The move positions the former diplomat and seasoned politician within the growing field of aspirants seeking to lead the north-eastern state, which remains a key political battleground in Nigeria.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to conclude its internal screening and primary process, which will determine its flagbearer for the 2027 elections.

Tuggar’s entry into the race is expected to intensify political consultations within the party as aspirants begin early manoeuvring ahead of the primaries.
