The Nigerian Army has announced plans to establish a new Forward Operating Base (FOB) on a 400-hectare site in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. The strategic move is aimed at strengthening security and enhancing rapid military response across the Kogi East Senatorial District.
According to a statement from the Army Headquarters, the new base will be located along the Anyigba–Iyale road, a crucial artery linking several communities in the region. Military officials believe the location will enable troops to respond swiftly to security threats and improve the safety of local residents.
A high-level military delegation, led by the Deputy Chief of Operations, Major General P.B. Kaughna, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the proposed site on September 16. The team was received by Brigadier General K.U. Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, who joined them for the inspection.
During their visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of the host community, the Ogohi-Onu Anyigba, Alhaji Shuaibu Okolo. The Army emphasized that collaboration with local leadership is vital to the success of the initiative, ensuring the community feels both protected and included.
The team also visited existing troop locations at FOB Oguma, Ejule, and Patrol Base Ayingba to assess readiness and review challenges faced by soldiers.
The Army described the process as smooth and productive, reaffirming its commitment to expanding its security presence in volatile areas. The establishment of the new FOB is part of a broader strategy to deter criminal activities and provide lasting stability in communities grappling with insecurity.
