Nigerian film actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi has died after reportedly passing away in his sleep, according to the country’s actors’ union.
His death was confirmed on Monday by Abubakar Yakubu, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), who described the news as a major loss to the country’s entertainment industry.
Yakubu said Akiyesi died on Sunday and that his remains have been deposited in a morgue in Abuja.
He added that the guild is awaiting further information from the late actor’s family regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Akiyesi, known for his work in Nollywood productions both as an actor and filmmaker, had been a familiar face in Nigeria’s film industry for years.
No official cause of death has yet been disclosed.
