Unidentified drones have been repeatedly spotted over a military installation in Washington, DC, over the past 10 days, triggering fresh concerns about airspace security in one of the most heavily protected regions in the United States.
According to reports, the drones were seen hovering above a base where senior officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, are known to reside.
Authorities have yet to determine the origin or intent of the aerial devices. Security agencies are said to be investigating the incidents, with efforts underway to assess whether the drones pose a threat to national security.
The sightings have raised questions about the vulnerability of restricted airspace, particularly in areas housing top government officials. Military and intelligence officials have not publicly disclosed whether any countermeasures were deployed during the period.
There has been no official statement confirming who may be responsible for the drone activity, but analysts warn the repeated incursions could signal gaps in surveillance or a potential test of US defensive systems.
