Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), setting the stage for his anticipated defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a resignation letter dated 29 December 2025 and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Ampang West, Mangu Local Government Area, the governor announced that he was leaving the party with immediate effect.
Mutfwang said his decision was driven by the need to align with a political platform he believes will enable him to deliver “purposeful leadership” to the people of Plateau State.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me with the political platform to participate in the democratic process,” his letter stated.
The move marks a significant political shift in Plateau’s landscape, given Mutfwang’s long-standing association with the PDP. His expected defection to the APC is likely to reshape alliances ahead of future political contests in the state.
The PDP has yet to issue an official response to the governor’s departure.
