Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) 2023 presidential candidate, has firmly dismissed rumours of a potential defection, reaffirming his commitment to the party while keeping the door ajar for discussions with other political heavyweights.

Speaking at the NNPP’s 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Kwankwaso quashed speculation about his future, stating, “Many expected us to announce a departure from the NNPP or a merger with another party today. That was never our intention. We are proud, content, and firmly rooted in our party.”

While emphasising the NNPP’s strength, Kwankwaso highlighted its flexibility, adding, “We’re not in a rush, but we’re open to dialogue. We believe we have much to offer at the highest levels of leadership in Nigeria. Any negotiations will be collective and strategic.”

In a rousing opening address, NNPP National Chairman Dr Ajuji Ahmed hailed Kwankwaso as the party’s “visionary leader” and confirmed his candidacy for 2027, declaring, “Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, our former governor, minister, diplomat, and 2023 presidential candidate, will, God willing, lead us again in 2027.”

Ahmed described the NNPP as the “jewel of Nigerian politics,” underscoring its growing appeal and progressive manifesto focused on citizens’ welfare. He also praised Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his transformative leadership, noting that his achievements reflect the NNPP’s bold vision for a revitalised Nigeria.

Looking ahead, National Secretary Dipo Olayoku affirmed the party’s readiness for upcoming elections, including the Anambra governorship election on 8 November 2025 and the FCT Council elections in February 2026. He also announced plans to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC) as the current leadership’s tenure, which began in April 2022, nears its end.

The NNPP urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity presented by INEC’s ongoing voter registration to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing, “Your vote is your voice—your power to choose credible leaders for a brighter future.”
