An Improvised Explosive Device (IED), suspected to have been planted in a mosque at the Gamboru Main Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, exploded this evening. The blast occurred at approximately 6:00 PM while worshippers were performing their Maghrib prayers.
Sources indicate that the mosque typically hosts a large number of people, including traders and customers who frequent the Gamboru market daily.
This explosion targeting a place of worship marks a significant security breach, as Maiduguri residents have not witnessed a bomb blast within the city for some time.
Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
