Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has publicly declared his unwavering support for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing him as “the best president Nigeria can ever have”.

Speaking during a recent public engagement, Charly Boy said he was prepared to stand with Obi to the end, citing what he called the former Anambra State governor’s integrity, competence and commitment to national development.

“I’m ready to die with Peter Obi. If we give him a chance, he will do something — and if he doesn’t, God will punish him a hundredfold,” the outspoken activist said.

Charly Boy, a long-time campaigner for good governance and accountability, argued that Nigeria urgently needs a leader who prioritises transparency, economic prudence and the welfare of ordinary citizens. He urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to look beyond ethnic and party loyalties and vote based on character and capacity.

His comments come amid heightened political activity as candidates intensify efforts to court voters ahead of upcoming elections. Obi, who rose to national prominence on a platform of fiscal discipline and anti-corruption, has attracted strong grassroots support, especially among urban youths and professionals.

Supporters see him as a break from Nigeria’s traditional political establishment, while critics question his ability to translate popularity into electoral victory.

For Charly Boy, however, the choice is clear.

“Nigeria cannot afford to miss this opportunity,” he said, calling on citizens to actively participate in the democratic process and hold leaders accountable.
