Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has intensified speculations regarding the 2027 general elections, declaring himself “overqualified” to lead Nigeria. Speaking during a media parley in Ibadan on Tuesday, the Governor pointed to his executive experience and private sector background as the primary pillars of his readiness.

Drawing a direct comparison to President Bola Tinubu’s path to the Aso Rock, Makinde noted that his two-term governorship of Oyo State mirrors the credentials that brought the current president to power. “By May 2027, I will have completed the full tenure as a two-term governor,” Makinde stated, adding that his experience running a private company at age 29 further distinguishes his profile.
Despite his bold claims, the Governor maintained that it remains “too early” for a definitive campaign announcement, choosing instead to focus on the need for a strong opposition to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
