•Six suspects, including informants, arrested as Governor Makinde vows to rescue remaining captives.

The Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has been plunged into a state of deep mourning and terror following the brutal execution of Michael Oyedokun, a teacher abducted from Community High School by suspected bandits.

The cold-blooded murder was confirmed on Monday after a harrowing video emerged online, showing the victim tied up and forced to deliver a final message before being executed by his captors. The development has sent shockwaves through the state, heightening fears for the lives of other staff members and students still held in the bandits’ forest dens.

A Community in Agony
Michael Oyedokun, identified as a dedicated Mathematics teacher, was among several victims snatched when gunmen stormed the school premises on Friday, May 15. The abductors had reportedly targeted the school principal, several teachers, and a group of students in a daring daylight raid that has left the local education system in a state of paralysis.

The release of the execution video is being viewed by security experts as a calculated psychological warfare tactic aimed at local authorities. Distraught relatives and community leaders have intensified their pleas to the state and federal governments, begging for a swift intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

Government Confirms Arrests
Confirming the tragic incident, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, expressed the administration’s profound grief. He noted that while the loss of Mr. Oyedokun is a “dark blow” to the state, security forces are making significant inroads into the kidnappers’ network.

“What we know right now is that seven teachers in all were abducted. Unfortunately, we got a video this morning confirming that the mathematics teacher was killed by the terrorists,” Olanrewaju stated.

He further revealed that the state’s multi-agency security crackdown has already yielded results. “Security operatives have recorded breakthroughs with the arrest of six suspects connected to the abduction. Some are believed to be informants and logistics suppliers who provided the kidnappers with intelligence on the school’s movements. Three other persons of interest were also apprehended by a separate security outfit in the state.”

The High Cost of Rescue Efforts
The rescue mission has come at a heavy price for Nigeria’s security forces. Olanrewaju disclosed that the bandits have resorted to using sophisticated Guerilla tactics, including the deployment of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Several soldiers, members of the Oyo State Security Network (Amotekun), and local vigilantes have lost their lives after encountering these explosives during a deep-forest sweep.

“The Governor sympathizes with the families of the fallen heroes—the soldiers, Amotekun operatives, and vigilantes who died in the line of duty. They encountered IEDs planted by these criminals. Those injured are currently receiving the best possible medical care, and the government will stand by their families,” the spokesperson added.

### Pushing for State Police
The gruesome incident has reignited the national debate over regional security. The Senate has already condemned the Oyo and Borno student abductions, with many lawmakers pushing for the establishment of State Police to allow for more localized and rapid responses to such threats.

Governor Makinde has assured the public that the state is employing both “kinetic and non-kinetic” strategies—combining military force with local intelligence and community engagement—to ensure the safe return of the remaining teachers and students.

As of Monday evening, a heavy security presence remained in Oriire LGA, with aerial surveillance reportedly being deployed to track the movement of the bandits deeper into the border forests. Residents remain on edge, praying that the “mathematics teacher” will be the last victim of this bloody saga.
