Tributes have continued to pour in following the death of Colonel Abdulsalam Ude of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), who was reportedly killed after resisting an attempted abduction at his residence in Abuja.
Among those paying tribute is X user Uthman Isa Tochukwu, who described the late officer as a devoted teacher of the Holy Qur’an and a scholar who had mastered the Arabic language.
“He was a teacher of the Qur’an who had mastered the Arabic language,” Tochukwu wrote in a post on X, mourning the late colonel’s passing.
Colonel Ude was reportedly attacked shortly after arriving at his home in Phase 5 of the Army Housing Estate, Kurudu, on the outskirts of Abuja, at about 10:45 p.m. on Monday. Reports indicate that he was killed while resisting an attempt by suspected kidnappers to abduct him.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over insecurity within the Federal Capital Territory, with many Nigerians expressing shock that a senior military intelligence officer could be targeted in such circumstances.
The Defence Intelligence Agency has yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to track down those responsible.
The late Colonel Ude is being remembered not only for his service to the nation but also for his commitment to Islamic scholarship and the teaching of the Qur’an, with many describing his death as a profound loss to both the military and the Muslim community.
