His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State, paid a respectful visit to Senator Suemo Chia at his Old GRA residence in Makurdi on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. The visit served as a significant tribute to Senator Chia’s enduring and invaluable contributions to the Tiv people and Nigeria.
During the visit, Governor Alia lauded Senator Chia for his extensive legacies and affirmed the Benue State Government’s steadfast support. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to welcoming constructive ideas from all Benue citizens, especially from respected figures like Senator Chia.
Senator Chia expressed profound gratitude to Governor Alia for recognizing him during his lifetime, a gesture he noted is often overlooked. He offered the Governor his counsel and blessings, wishing him success in his governance.
Senator Suemo Chia, born over 82 years ago in Mbajima, Tongov District, has dedicated his life to public service. His distinguished educational journey includes degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the Nigerian Law School. His illustrious career spans roles in education, legal practice, and public service, notably as Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Information in Benue State and as a Senator in the National Assembly from 1979 to 1983. He is also the acclaimed author of “Adan – Wade Kohol Ga,” a pivotal work chronicling Tiv history.
Senator Chia’s influence extends to his leadership in the Nigerian Red Cross Society and his significant efforts in youth development across the state. Governor Alia’s visit underscores the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the profound impact of individuals like Senator Chia, urging continued recognition of his legacy by the Benue State Government and all progressive organizations.
