Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has firmly denied any involvement in calls for the dismissal of Sen. George Akume from his position as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). This statement addresses recent media reports allegedly fueled by Akume’s associates, aiming to undermine the Governor’s focus on advancing the state’s development.

The controversy stems from a communiqué issued by a group of Governor Alia’s appointees. While the communiqué may reflect the personal opinions of those individuals, it does not represent an official position of the Governor. These appointees, acting independently, did not claim to speak on behalf of Governor Alia nor suggest that their views were endorsed by him.

In a statement signed by Sir Tersoo Kula, MNIPR
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and obtained by OBSERVERSTIMES, Governor Alia has maintained a professional stance amidst ongoing provocations from Akume’s political allies, including his wife, a House of Representatives member. Despite these challenges, the Governor has refrained from publicly criticizing the SGF.

If Governor Alia were to seek Akume’s removal, he would follow official channels, as he did when supporting Akume’s initial appointment. The Governor’s focus remains on the positive trajectory of governance in Benue State, and he is committed to delivering tangible benefits to its citizens.

The narrative suggesting Governor Alia’s involvement in advocating for the SGF’s removal is misleading and distracts from the critical issues facing the state. Governor Alia’s administration is dedicated to overcoming Benue’s historical underdevelopment and fostering progress.

Governor Alia is devoted to his mandate and prioritizes the interests of Benue State over personal or political disputes. The administration urges the public to focus on governance and the state’s progress rather than unfounded allegations.
