Wenchi, Ghana – The Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Wenchi West District of the Mid-West Ghana Conference, Bono Region, celebrated 20 young girls over the weekend for maintaining their virginity. The girls, aged 13 to 16, were recognized and received undisclosed financial support during a special Thanksgiving service.
According to GhanaWeb, the ceremony, organized by the Young Adventist Women Ministries, aimed to promote moral integrity among young women, emphasizing Christian and cultural values.
Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, stressed the importance of self-confidence, wise decision-making, and the need to choose friends carefully.
“The preservation of your virginity is in your sole interest,” Mrs. Poku urged the girls. “Your virginity until marriage can give you what all the men in the world can’t give.”
She also emphasized the significance of traditional practices like the Bragoro or Dipo rite, which historically helped preserve girls’ virginity and prevent teenage pregnancies.
Associate Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyereh commended the girls for their discipline and purity. He encouraged them to prioritize education and faith, urging other young people to follow their example. Pastor Kyereh also called on parents to actively guide their children towards virtuous living and instill strong moral values.
