The Abia State caucus of the Former Legislators Forum has expressed a vote of confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the leadership of the 10th National Assembly (NASS). This endorsement extends to House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and the entire NASS leadership.
The caucus cited the strong synergy between the legislative and executive branches, particularly in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and its associated economic policies, as the basis for their confidence.
The decision was formalized in a communique released after the forum’s inaugural meeting, held at the Umuahia residence of former House of Representatives member Uko Nkole. The meeting, convened by Benjamin Kalu and coordinated by Uzo Azubuike, brought together former legislators from national, state, and local government levels.
Uko Nkole, the forum’s national coordinator, explained that the group is a non-partisan platform designed to leverage the extensive legislative experience of its members. The goal is to ensure the NASS creates comprehensive laws that reflect the diverse perspectives of Nigerians.
The communique also announced the forum’s upcoming inaugural conference, scheduled for May in Enugu. Niger State Governor Umar Baggo will chair the event, with former Senate President Pius Anyim serving as co-chair. Notable speakers and guests include former House Speakers Yakubu Dogara and Femi Gbajabiamila, former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
