The Federal Government has confirmed that debris from United States precision air strikes targeting Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist enclaves fell in parts of Kwara and Sokoto states.

The US military had carried out the Christmas Day operation, striking two major ISIS camps located within the Bauni Forest axis in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the guided munitions successfully hit their intended targets, though fragments from the strikes were later found in neighbouring communities.

According to the minister, debris from the operation landed in Jabo, Sokoto State, and Offa in Kwara State. He stressed that the strikes were part of ongoing international counterterrorism efforts and were executed with high-level precision.

Idris added that the Federal Government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of affected communities.

He assured the public that there was no immediate threat, noting that investigations and assessments were already under way to determine the full impact of the incident.

Further updates, he said, would be provided as more information becomes available.
