The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Federal High Court Chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike today after the federal government failed to meet their demands for salary increases and the implementation of a new minimum wage.
The strike action affects all federal courts, including the Federal High Court, Appeal Court, Supreme Court, and National Industrial Court, as workers have not received payments owed to them under the revised salary structure.
JUSUN issued a 21-day ultimatum to the government, which expired today. The union had previously warned of industrial action if their demands were not met.
In a statement released today, Comrade Samuel Ikpatt, Chairman of JUSUN’s Federal High Court Chapter, said, “We shall be proceeding on an indefinite strike action after the expiration of Twenty-one (21) days this notice commencing from Thursday, the 23rd of January, 2025. This action is due to the inaction on the non-implementation of the new minimum wage, 25% & 35% of salary increase and the We Award.”
Comrade Ikpatt emphasized that the strike could still be averted if the government urgently fulfills its payment obligations to union members.
