Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has issued a pointed warning to President Bola Tinubu over reported efforts to secure a meeting with former United States President Donald Trump.

In comments circulating on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode urged caution, suggesting that any attempt by the Nigerian leader to court Trump could prove diplomatically misguided and politically unnecessary. He argued that Nigeria’s foreign policy posture should be anchored in long-term strategic interests rather than what he described as “flirtations with turbulent political figures abroad.”

Fani-Kayode, a prominent voice in Nigeria’s political discourse, maintained that the presidency should prioritise strengthening existing international partnerships and projecting national stability. According to him, any engagement with Trump—whose political future in the US remains a subject of debate—must be approached with measured judgement.
