A wave of explosions struck Iraq’s capital late on [insert day], after drones and rockets were launched towards the heavily fortified Green Zone, where the United States Embassy in Baghdad is located.

Security sources said air defence systems were activated to intercept incoming projectiles, with at least one drone reportedly shot down before reaching its intended target. The extent of damage remains unclear, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.

The attack underscores escalating tensions in Baghdad, where armed groups have periodically targeted diplomatic and military sites linked to the United States. Sirens were heard across the Green Zone as residents reported multiple blasts echoing through the night.

Iraqi authorities have yet to officially identify those responsible, but similar attacks in the past have been attributed to Iran-aligned militias operating within the country.

The United States has repeatedly warned that such assaults threaten diplomatic stability and could provoke a response. Meanwhile, Iraqi officials have called for restraint, urging all parties to avoid further escalation that could destabilise the region.
