In a stunning political move, Ude Chukwu, former deputy governor to Abia State’s Okezie Ikpeazu, has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately. The resignation, detailed in a letter dated 5 August, comes on the heels of Chukwu’s high-profile visit to the current Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
Chukwu, who served as deputy governor from May 2015 to May 2023, cited “personal reasons” for his departure from the PDP. In his letter, addressed to the Chairman of Ndi Elu Ward, Nkporo, Ohafia L.G.A., and received by Ama Nwoke Ibe, he expressed gratitude for the party’s support over the years and extended best wishes for its future. “Whilst it was a difficult decision, it is the best course of action for me at this time,” Chukwu wrote.
The timing of his exit has sparked speculation, particularly as it follows a meeting with Governor Otti, during which Chukwu reportedly refrained from endorsing Otti’s re-election bid for 2027. Sources indicate that Chukwu’s visit led to his swift removal from all Abia PDP stakeholders’ groups, suggesting a deepening rift within the party.
