Senator Dino Melaye has issued a scathing ultimatum to the Kogi State government, demanding immediate accountability following the tragic killing of three indigenes of Aiyetoro Kiri.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, the former lawmaker condemned what he described as a “lack of pragmatic action” from both state and federal authorities regarding the escalating insecurity in the Okun region.
“The Okun people are taxpayers; we must not be abandoned,” Melaye declared. “The era of unchecked killings and abductions of our people must end. We demand a deliberate, organized, and functional security strategy to protect and recover our citizens.”
The Aiyetoro Kiri community has been under siege in recent months, with residents reporting a surge in violent attacks. Despite repeated government assurances, Melaye argued that the lack of arrests or visible deterrents has left the community vulnerable.
The Senator further warned that if the state fails to secure the region, the people would be forced to take matters into their own hands through civil disobedience.
“We will not sit idly by while our people are preyed upon,” Melaye stated. “If this violence continues unchecked, we will organize a protest that no security agency can stop. The lives of these three individuals cannot be swept under the rug.”
As pressure mounts on the Kogi State government, the Aiyetoro Kiri tragedy has become a flashpoint for the broader debate over regional security and the protection of rural communities.
