Mohammed El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly stated his support for a probe into his father’s administration, provided the investigation is conducted fairly and without political bias.
In a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Mohammed, who now represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, emphasized the importance of accountability. However, he cautioned against using investigations as tools for political vendettas. “If done for selfish reasons, such inquiries only harm progress,” he stated.
While supporting a transparent process, Mohammed stressed that the focus should be on uncovering facts, not settling scores. He believes any probe should be driven by a genuine desire for truth and improvement, rather than personal animosity.
Addressing the perceived rift between his father and the current Governor, Uba Sani, Mohammed suggested the issue is being amplified by the media. He clarified that mediating between the two is not his responsibility, though he acknowledged his unease with the situation, given the roles both men have played in his life. He expressed his commitment to serving his constituents and prioritizing effective governance in his constituency.
Mohammed also made a colorful analogy, saying, “Some people are delighted, seeing my father and the Governor enmeshed in a conflict, just like the legendary Bollywood actors, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra fighting.” This comment highlighted the public interest in the relationship between the two prominent politicians.
