Wale Edun, the former Finance Minister, resigned due to health reasons, he was not sacked, says the Presidency.

Nigeria’s presidency has dismissed reports that former Finance Minister Wale Edun was removed from office, stating instead that he resigned due to health concerns.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the presidency said Edun stepped down from his role as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy prior to the announcement of his successor.

The clarification comes amid speculation surrounding his exit, with officials emphasising that the decision was voluntary and based on medical grounds rather than dismissal.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on Tuesday named a replacement, following Edun’s resignation.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, released a statement announcing that Mr. Wale Edun, the former Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, officially resigned from his position due to health reasons.

This occurred before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced his replacement on Tuesday.
