A joint operation by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian military has successfully dislodged scores of heavily armed bandits in Niger State, demonstrating the DSS’s commitment to active engagement beyond intelligence gathering. The terrorists are believed to be loyal to notorious kingpins Dogo Gide and Leyi.
The operation commenced on Tuesday, following a brazen attack by terrorists on Chibani village in Munya Local Government Area, where one Ayuba Isah was killed and two others, a policeman and Alhaji Shuaibu, sustained gunshot injuries.
The situation escalated on Wednesday when approximately 200 bandits, heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed a security base in Kuchi, also in Munya LGA. A fierce gun battle ensued, during which security forces neutralized scores of the assailants, with many others fleeing with various degrees of injuries. Sources indicate that timely re-enforcement from Galadima Kogo to Kuchi played a crucial role in weakening the bandits’ assault.
Following the encounter, another security source reported spotting large herds of rustled cattle crossing the Kusasu River in Galadima Kogo District of Shiroro LGA, moving towards what is believed to be the bandits’ hideout in the Borisudna/Kwaki axis of the same LGA.
DSS operatives and Nigerian Army troops in the area have since contacted the Nigerian Air Force for aerial support, expressing optimism that the Air Force will effectively smoke out the remnants of the fleeing bandits.
This joint success underscores the unwavering commitment of Nigeria’s security forces to actively confront and neutralize threats on the ground.
