The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed rumors of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s potential defection to their party, emphasizing their disinterest in the matter due to the governor’s alleged underperformance.

Speculation has been circulating about Oborevwori’s possible move to the APC, a claim the governor has denied through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Festus Ahon. In response, the APC issued a statement on Thursday, signed by State Publicity Secretary Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, from Asaba, the state capital.

The statement declared, “While individuals have the right to associate with any political party, the Delta APC is not concerned with these rumors, given Governor Oborevwori’s lackluster performance since taking office. We do not see this as a significant shift in our state’s political landscape.”

The APC criticized Oborevwori’s administration, citing widespread underperformance and mismanagement. Despite receiving substantial federal allocations exceeding N500 billion monthly, the governor has allegedly failed to deliver meaningful development for Delta State.

“Deltans are disillusioned with the current administration, and their dissatisfaction is evident. Delta APC champions progress, good governance, and a brighter future for our people, and we remain steadfast in these principles,” the statement continued.

The party dismissed the government’s claims of progress as exaggerated and stressed the need for effective, people-focused leadership to achieve genuine development.

“It is the Delta APC’s firm belief that true progress and sustainable development will only ensue when capable leaders committed to the welfare of the people are in charge—qualities currently absent in the current administration,” the statement added.

The APC reaffirmed its mission to drive the change Delta State deserves, grounded in integrity, accountability, and visionary leadership.

While acknowledging interest from individuals, including Governor Oborevwori, in aligning with the APC due to President Bola Tinubu’s developmental initiatives, the party maintained its focus on ensuring Delta State benefits from leadership that prioritizes its people and potential.

Mr. Onojeghuo concluded that the Delta APC will continue to uphold its foundational ideals of progress, development, and inclusive governance, rejecting political opportunism and the shifting of allegiances for personal gain.
