An Israeli civilian has been killed after the Israeli military mistakenly fired multiple shells at the wrong location, in what officials have described as a tragic operational error.

According to preliminary reports, at least five artillery shells were launched during what was believed to be a targeted operation. However, the rounds struck an unintended area, resulting in the death of a civilian within Israeli territory.

The Israeli military acknowledged the incident, stating that an internal review has been launched to determine how the miscalculation occurred. Early indications suggest a possible targeting or communication failure during the operation.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, but emergency services confirmed that the individual died at the scene. No additional casualties have been reported.

Military officials expressed regret over the incident, emphasising that protocols are in place to minimise civilian harm, even during active operations. “This is a serious incident that will be thoroughly investigated,” a spokesperson said.

The development has raised fresh concerns over operational accuracy and the risks associated with the use of heavy artillery, particularly in sensitive or densely populated areas.

Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
