Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, made a gesture that has drawn nationwide praise after asking his close friends to stop smoking during his wedding ceremony in Miami, out of respect for his father, Dr Adedeji Adeleke.

In a video that surfaced online, the singer can be heard telling his groomsmen, which included his cousin B-Red and rapper Zlatan Ibile, “My daddy is coming, if you’re smoking, off it.” The moment, captured just before his father’s arrival, quickly went viral, earning him commendations for displaying humility and deference to parental values, even on such a high-profile occasion.

Davido and his wife, Chioma, tied the knot in a star-studded white wedding over the weekend. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Joseph Adebisiola alongside two other clergymen the same trio who presided over the wedding of Davido’s parents decades ago, adding a sentimental touch to the event.

Fans and commentators on social media lauded the singer for setting an example, with many describing the act as a rare show of respect in an industry often associated with flamboyance and excess. The wedding, which attracted notable figures from entertainment, business, and politics, has continued to dominate conversations both in Nigeria and abroad.
