The recent signing of Kelechi Iheanacho by Celtic has sparked much conversation in football circles. However, former Nigeria coach and football legend Finidi George has expressed strong confidence in the striker’s potential at his new club. Speaking exclusively to Footy Africa, George shared three key reasons why Iheanacho is poised for success at Parkhead.
“Kelechi is a proven talent,” George remarked. “Celtic is the perfect stage for him to show that again. Sometimes, players just need the right environment, a club that believes in them.”
Iheanacho, 28, joins Celtic after a challenging spell with Sevilla and a loan stint at Middlesbrough last season, where his performances were not up to expectations. Despite a difficult period, George believes the striker’s qualities remain undeniable.
“He’s got the quality, and I believe he will deliver,” George continued. “Celtic play attacking football, and Kelechi thrives in that kind of setup. It’s not easy to come back after a tough spell, but great players always find a way. He has the hunger, and this is his chance.”
The Nigerian international has an impressive record with 15 goals in 59 appearances for the Super Eagles, though he has not been included in recent national team call-ups. With Celtic’s next match against Kilmarnock set for September 14, manager Brendan Rodgers is eager to have Iheanacho match-fit and ready to make an impact on the pitch.
